Tour de Khunjerab 2019


Results:

  • WAPDA’s cyclist Najeebullah reigned supreme in the Tour de Khunjerab Cycle Race winning the fourth stage, overall title with a total time of 8:41:39 for four stages. 
  • Followed by Hanzala (Balochistan) who was finished just one second behind Najeebullah
  • SSGC’s Abdul Razzak, who clocked 8:46:47 for four stages, took third position.


Background:

Gilgit Baltistan government in collaboration with Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) and Serena Hotels organized the four-day cycle race ‘Tour de Khunjerab 2019’ which concluded successfully at Karakoram Highway. More than a hundred cyclists participated in the international cycling race, the ‘Tour de Khunjerab’.

11 teams from Pakistan, two international teams and diplomats of different countries were also seen in action in open category. Total prize money of Rs 1 million distributed among the top position holders of the event, which was jointly co-hosted by GB government in collaboration with Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) and Serena Hotels. 


In the first phase, 68km distance covered from Gilgit to Gammat, second phase was individual time trial, which covered 35km, from Gamamt to Doker, while third stage covered 92km from Aliabad to Susat Border, while fourth and last stage covered total distance of 84km from Susat to Khunjrab.

The race culminated on 30th June at Khunjerab Pass, which is the highest paved international border between Pakistan and China at an altitude of 15,300 feet. 

The concluding ceremony was held in Karimabad wherein the participants of the race given local gifts and the winners got certificates and prizes.
