Birds and bees? PCB’s top officials have the talk with Amir

The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) top officials have sat down with Mohammad Amir in a bid to help him cope better with the expectations and the pressure that will come in Pakistan’s tour of England, with the team expected to depart on Thursday.

So far Amir was part of the group during training and psychiatrist sessions but Amir was called up for a meeting with PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan, Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmad and Executive Committee head Najam Sethi.

There is expected to be enormous pressure on Amir as he would be the main focus on his return to the place of the 2010 ‘spot-fixing’ scandal, with the first Test taking place at the Lord’s ground where he infamously bowled those no-balls.

Amir has already toured New Zealand, and also featured in the Asia Cup and World T20 but England may prove to be a more difficult prospect.

“Amir was called up by top PCB officials and was told what was expected of him on this important tour because he would be in the limelight,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune. “The officials tried to calm his nerves and asked him to just focus on his game. He has been told that it is important that he stays away from the media.”

Meanwhile, the official also played down reports that some players were not getting along with Amir, stating that the fast-bowler has the full support of his teammates.
