Darren Sammy ‘given honorary citizenship of Pakistan’

West Indian T20 Captain and Peshawar Zalmi Player Darren Sammy has been given honorary citizenship of Pakistan. The owner of PSL team Peshawar Zalmi, Javed Afridi had requested the government to give Sammy this status.

Following the request of Javed Afridi, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak announced honorary citizenship of Pakistan for the World T20 winning captain.

Darren Sammy, while accepting the citizenship, said it was an honor for him. He announced this through a tweet in Pashto.Darren Sammy was a key player of Peshawar Zalmi during the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League. Since then he has regularly showed his love for Pakistani fans.

In his online Thank You speech to his fans, after winning the World T20, Sammy especially thanked Pakistani fans in Pashto. Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi announced reward of $20,000 for him after West Indies’ victory.
